Parish Priests of Tordandrea

History of parish priests which had the spiritual care of the population of Tordandrea is one of the most troubled of all the diocese of Assisi. The first mention is about the priest sent to Tordandrea by Braccio II Baglioni, lord and marquis in 1550, maybe after the building of the new church of St. Bernardino outside the walls. The unusual fact is that this man act not only as chaplain but also as podestà (major) of the marquisate. For a period longer than a century the subsequent chaplains were all "ad nutum", i.e. on call: in fact they were directly chosen by parishioner and, for this reason they could be removed from their office. Therefore they were transferable priests. This fact continued to last for a long period of time, in spite of the prohibition expressed in 1573 by the apostolic visitor mons. Pietro Camaiani. We know that only in 1673 there was a "perpetual parish priest" appointed by the diocese order. It's difficult to enumerate all priests in Tordandea's parish because of their frequent succession.
